Great write up. What is stopping more cooperatives from sprouting up in the world? Is it a lack of deep capital? Are incumbent forces stopping cooperatives being established and growing? Or is there something intrinsic in having an entrepreneur-founder at the table that makes privately-owned companies more likely to succeed?

I’d add to similar models to the cooperative worth considering too:

  1. Stated Owned Enterprises. Singapore’s Temasek comes to mind
  2. Codetermination. Prevalent in Germany, it sees half of the members in all supervisory boards being representatives of workers; who also have binding rights on workplace initiatives. Not quite a cooperative as half the board members represent non-employee shareholders.
