Great write up, Chris.

I agree, these were huge turning points in the British Empire’s history. I’d say the Suez Crisis was well past the point of no return — simply revealing that the Empress had no clothes.

Specifically — I think that when Britain signed the Atlantic Treaty in 1941 in an effort to bring the US into the war; it all but guaranteed that they would have to surrender their empire.

Further; once India gained independence — it took away the need for a great many more colonies.
