I think #1 is much less of an issue than it once was. 1984 was still in the cold war — with the threat of nuclear anhiliation still weighing heavily on everyone’s minds. Terrorism — which appears to be the current threat we all face seems far less of an existential threat.

Re: breakdown of families I’d say that it need not always be negative. For example — in 1984, and even further back in history, many women were trapped in terrible domestic situations. The increasing independence of women has allowed them to walk way from these circumstances — but is unfortunately recorded as “family breakdown”.
