I’d say it’s in indisputable and irreversible decline — however, has a ways to go before it loses its status as an empire.

It will happen once America is no longer able to project its power globally; either because it has lost its way, or other regional powers (like China, Russia, EU, Brazil, Indonesia, etc) have risen to push America out.
