I’d add: I think that STEM disciplines typically require multi-year specialisations through degrees.

MESH subjects are almost basic skills need to function in society — and the “101” level of speciality is all that would be required.

A skills shortage on the former would take decades of planning to fix. The societal MESH deficiency can be fixed pretty quickly by introducing it into high school curriculums across the board.
