I agree — there won’t be any winners in a nuclear war and countries will do what they can to avoid it.
However, not all those states with nuclear weapons are the most stable.
Acts of political brinksmanship in places like Pakistan and North Korea could very well lead to use of Nuclear weapons against their neighbours (India and Japan respectively) — which could in turn, bring in their allies (China, and the Quad) sparking a global conflict.
Similar things occurred in previous world wars such as the “Blank Cheque” that Germany gave Austria prior to WWI, and the Japan’s Kwantung army corps’ unauthorised invasion of Manchuria.
