I think that due to the imbalances in the electoral system — the democrats need to have a much broader tent which in turn means more spates and arguments amongst themselves. This in turns means they need to continue proposing centrists.

Unfortunately, I don’t think they can reliably push left unless (or until) Texas becomes a reliably blue state so they have a lock on the electoral college.
