What Is Your Identity And What Legacy Can You Leave Behind?

What makes up the core part of your identity? Can you and should you pass it onto those who come after you?

People identify in different ways. It may be through a:

  • Belief system such as religion, political persuasion or moral values
  • Profession such as a Doctor, teacher or artist
  • Ethno-linguistic group such as an Arab or a Tamilian
  • Nationality such as an Australian, Indian, or even European
  • Shared experience such as a war veteran, a Holocaust survivor or a migrant
  • Relationship role such as mother, son, sister, or boyfriend
  • Membership of a club such as one for Freemasons or motorcyclists
  • Gender (bloke, gentleman, chick, lady)
  • Sexuality

One might identify using one or more of these labels — and it is something very central and core to how you see yourself, and you place in the world.

Some types of identity are only prominent or pertinent when you are in away from home.
