With our kids – we taught them the concept of poverty and disadvantage; and that some people are poorer than others because they got shafted (be it through colonialism or slavery).
Do you think calling out the colour of the oppressor and oppressed is a key thing to teach? Or is it sufficient to say: “People from the country of Spain killed and enslaved all the Incas which is why there is so much relative poverty in Peru”…without getting into what a Spaniard or Inca person look like.
